These days you can order just about anything online, but one of the things we love is to order food on an app like Deliveroo, Just Eat or Uber Eats when we’re feeling too lazy to cook.
Any food we want will be delivered straight to our front door at the touch of a button – it couldn’t be simpler.
But according to a former food delivery driver, some people make big mistakes when using these apps.
Annie Smith, who worked for a company called Postmates in the US, has revealed the most common mistakes she saw customers make while ordering and they’re applicable to most food delivery services.

Speaking to Insider, Annie, who now runs her own marketing agency, said that it’s important to make your delivery driver feel safe.
One way to do this is to make sure your house number is clearly visible – and the outside is well-lit at night if possible.
She recalled having to get out of her car in the dark often to search for homes and check apartment building maps to find the right place.
“If I pulled up to a neighbourhood and they had those illuminated street numbers on their house, it was the biggest sigh of relief,” she admits.
This is also beneficial for you as it helps the driver find your house quicker, so you get your food faster. No one wants cold takeaway.
Other big mistakes to avoid include not adding sufficient delivery instructions to the end of your order.
Annie told the publication she wishes more customers had provided their gate codes and helpful directions for places that are tricky to find.
And when it comes to leaving a tip, make sure you’re generous.
“I wish customers knew that the tip makes up most of what we get paid,” she adds.
This comes after another food delivery driver recently went viral for posting a video in which he cried after only being given the equivalent of 84p as a tip.
In a powerful clip shared to TikTok, Smithson Michael who posts under the name @deliveryguy100 explained his experience of working for food delivery companies in the US such as Uber Eats and DoorDash.
Sitting in his car, he wipes a tear away as he talks to the camera, saying: “I wish people knew what it was like to deliver Uber Eats, Postmates, DoorDash, all these companies.
“I just spent an hour driving around for $1.19 tip. I mean would it hurt y’all to tip us, throw us five dollars?
“I got a $1.19 tip and $2 from the app. What’s that? That’s not even enough to cover gas.
“How am I supposed to live like that?
“Homeless? I’m there. This and I’m sitting here and it’s gone, four months behind. There’s no way I could pay for that.”
He continues: “Everything fell apart on me and I haven’t been able to sustain myself, provide for myself and these are essential services.
“I just wish people knew what it was like. I wish they understood what it was like to drive for these services.”
